Celebrating 10 Years 1999-2009
Serving the Puget Sound region since 1999
The NWGC is run entirely by volunteers committed to providing support and resources to those in the girl-serving community. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member of the Leadership Council, please contact info@nwgirlscoalition.org.
As a girl, I wanted to be on the stage singing Broadway showtunes, but as fate would have it, I discovered I loved science and chose to major in physics and do research in astronomy. I initially became involved in the NWGC during my 10 years of teaching science, math and technology in all-girls schools and remain passionate about empowering girls in those subjects.

Celeste Jabert celeste@nwgirlscoalition.org I have always been a huge fan of Hillary Clinton - when she was running for President she came to speak several times at my college in Washington DC and to stand in a huge theater packed full of people cheering on a female candidate for president was incredibly inspiring. It was a reminder that growing up I wanted to be the first female president of the United States...and a nurse. I felt like I could both at the same time while also having six children. Professionally I support the Global Development Grants Management team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In my spare time I enjoy all manner of arts & crafts and am working to perfect my jello-molding technique.

Growing up my favorite book was The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin. Full of cleverness and wordplay, and featuring a scrappy young girl as heroine who solves the riddle in the end! Today, I'm a fundraiser at Bellevue Schools Foundation. I've been a volunteer at Crisis Clinic for 7 years, and have been on the NWGC Leadership Council for just over a year. I love to travel with my husband and play canasta with friends. If I'm not busy with one of these activities, I'll be reading. Somewhat obsessively.
Growing up I had big plans to be a wildlife biologist or forest ranger and my favorite book was Put Me In The Zoo by Robert Lopshire. Today I'm the Director of Faculty for Giant Campus, an on-line learning company. I also have experience in instructional design, non-profit management, and science education. Currently I enjoy science as a hobby, reading, walking, cooking and traveling.
Professionally I support the Infectious Diseases team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and if I were queen for a day I would bring clean water to the over one billion people who don't have it every day. Personally I am an avid sports fan and participant, active community volunteer, accomplished cook, and enthusiastic world traveler. One of my favorite Seattle things to do is grab sandwiches at Baguette Box (Drunken Chicken is my fave) have a picnic with friends at any city park. I'm also currently addicted to CrazyCherry frozen yogurt on Broadway (strawberry with chocolate chips!).
As a girl the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery was my favorite. I read everything that woman ever wrote, everything I could get my hands on... even some of her diary at the library, which turned out to be mostly boring. I still enjoy reading, as well as drawing, painting and craft projects in my free time. Professionally, I am the Fund Development and Alumnae Relations Manager at the Girl Scouts of Western Washington.
Passages Northwest
Rafael del Castillo rafael@nwgirlscoalition.org Growing up, I wanted to be an astronaut, but I get motion sickness, so instead I'm currently the Assistant Head of School at Seattle Girls' School. When I'm not at work, I serve in fund development with the NWGC. I'm also an avid reader and love to travel. One of my female role models is Hillary Clinton. I was a state delegate on her behalf this past election cycle; I think she is a great leader - regardless of her gender.
Growing up I wanted to be a nurse. I have my hand-written essay from 3rd grade to prove it. (Thanks for saving that, Mom.) Today, I'm a fundraiser, a hiker and mountain climber, a PTA Mom, an avid daydreamer, an advocate for girls' and women's issues, a reader and an armchair traveler. Sometimes I even get in a car or airplane or boat and explore the world for real..
NWGC Vision: To ensure a healthy, supportive environment for all girls to realize their full potential.
