Professional
Development
The Northwest Girls Coalition addresses the professional development
needs of the membership by providing trainings, workshops, panel
discussions and continuing education opportunities on topics
of relevance to the membership. Recognizing that many of the
professional development needs are similar across girls
organizations, and wanting to reduce the financial strain on
individual non-profits, the Coalition has a unique opportunity
to provide in this area. Topics covered include:
Confronting teasing, cliques, and bullying in your program
Using positive discipline
How to get money for your program
Techniques for managing anger
Building a diverse staff and board
Encouraging parental involvement
Working with volunteers
Networking
and Referrals
Collaboration is happening both formally and informally, at
monthly meetings and through e-mail. The following are few examples
of this:
Making referrals of girls from one program to another and recruiting
for girls
Sharing trainers and consultants
Advising new members who want to start up new programs in the area
